…a community calendar by and for Consumers of Liberty Resources, Inc. Liberty Lite is a monthly calendar of community events in Philadelphia. To list an event in the calendar, please submit the information by the 18th of the month by calling our main number, 215-634-2000, ext. 269. Unless otherwise noted, activities will take place at Liberty Resources, 714 Market Street, Philadelphia.

Independence Arts Studio presents The Summer of Art, Opening and Reception in the basement of 714 Market Street, 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM, July 31. Light refreshments will be served. Come and see everyone’s artwork from the summer session of art classes (jewelry-making, printmaking, and painting). The Exhibit will remain open from noon to 5 PM August 1-8 (excluding weekends).

Energy Conservation Workshops provided by the Energy Coordinating Agency, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Suzanne Bacal Conference Room, 1st floor of Liberty Resources. ECA will be providing information on how to save money on utilities this summer and will give away five free energy conserving light bulbs to each person who attends. July 30:

July 31 Reception, Exhibit Open until August 8:

Come and share your ideas regarding our advocacy agenda and attendant care issues. Lunch provided. Please register in advance by calling Linda, ext. 227. August 6:

August 7:
“Become a Health Mentor” orientation. This is a new program initiated by Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for future medical professionals to learn about disability and health issues from the ones who know best - YOU! 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Wade Blank Room, 2nd floor. Call Fran, ext. 225.


August 8, 15 & 22:
Taste of Technology Days. Free informational sessions that provide an overview and tour of The Liberty Resources Academy. A career exploration is also conducted to identify your transferable skills if seeking competitive employment. Aside from pre-vocational training, The Academy offers basic computer skills training in addition to other classes to Consumers eligible under CSPPPD. By appointment only. 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM. August 11:
Expanding the Availability of Accessible Housing:
A National Teleconference & Webcast presented by SILC-NET. Are you interested in learning what your Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) can do to increase the stock and availability of accessible, affordable, integrated housing? Then join us on August 11 from 3:00 - 4:30 PM EDT for this 90-minute teleconference and webcast for an introductory overview of the programs, agencies, and strategies your SILC will need to understand to begin this work.

CIL-NET Presents: Paving the Way for Nursing Home Transition, A National Teleconference & Webcast. Are you a new transition coordinator? Has your CIL started a new program to help individuals plan their move back to the community? Then you may already know that the most difficult steps in the transition process can be your first. Join us on Monday, August 18 from 3:00 to 4:30 PM to learn valuable tips and concrete steps to get every transition off to a positive start. We’ll teach you how to find consumers that want to leave; how to build positive, trusting relationships with consumers, their families, and even facility staff and doctors; and, most important, how to work with the consumer to teach them how to achieve what they want and need to regain their freedom in the community!

If you are an adult AAC user and want to share your experiences, the AAC Adult User Group is for you.
