Liberty Resources, Inc. offers Consumers a variety of programs and events each month.  All events take place at LRI, 801 Arch Street, Suite 600, Philadelphia, PA 19107.  For more information about any activity listed, call LRI’s main number (215-634-2000) and the extension at the end of the listing.

Liberty Home Choices: To enroll in LRI’s attendant agency, call Ext. 617.

Every Wednesday:  Legal Advocacy – Temple University’s Law School provides free advice and representation for Consumers on general legal problems. To schedule an appointment, call 215-204-1800.

Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: Nicole’s Place, open 10:00 AM-3:00 PM, 112 N. 8th Street, Second Floor, across from elevators/behind receptionist’s desk. Shop in LRI’s thrift store and support LRI’s programs. Donations for the store are also welcome.  Call Christine, Ext. 217.

ReTreads: By appointment only. Consumers may obtain free clean, inspected, recycled wheelchairs and other devices.  ReTreads also accepts used wheelchairs and other durable medical equipment. Call Ext. 272, leave a message and someone will call you back to set up an appointment.

Peer Support: Connect with other disabled people one-on-one or in group settings. Call Bill ext. 197 or Morgan ext. 124.

Every Thursday: Philadelphia City Council, City Hall, Room 400, 10:00 AM to Noon. Please attend to let Council members know people with disabilities are concerned about issues affecting the city and our Community. Call Harry, 215-600-1536 (VP).

Every Tuesday: Basic Sign Language Class, 1:00-3:00 PM, Ed Roberts Room. (Deaf and Hard of Hearing ONLY). Call John, 267-314-8689.

Every Thursday: Math Class in ASL, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, Ed Roberts Room. Learn How to Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Create a budget and Write a check. Call John, 267-314-8689.

Every Thursday: Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia (PILCOP) 12:30-4:30, Oliver Jordan Room.  Attorney Lee Awbrey will lend her legal services to LRI on a weekly basis. She is available to discuss issues consumers may be facing as it relates to employment discrimination and to provide discreet representation, such as assisting with accommodation requests and to preparing pro se complaints with EEOC or PCHR.

April 5: Consumer Connections, 1:00-2:30 PM, Wade Blank Room A.  Topic: SEPTA and CCT issues. We will discuss your rights as a SEPTA/CCT Rider and learn ways to file a complaint. Call Latoya Maddox, Ext. 114.

April 7 & 21: Young Adults Club, 1:00-3:00 PM, Oliver Jordan Room.  Anyone 18-29 years old is welcome to attend. Call Mary Beth, Ext. 335.

April 12: ADAPT Fundraising, 12:00 PM until sold out! Skills Training Kitchen, Second Floor, Prepared by Nancy, Chicken Salad on a croissant homemade brownie & beverage. Just $7. April 12: Policy Posse, 1:00-2:30 PM, Bacal Room. Topic: American Health Care Act. What it means for disabled people and how we can protect our rights. Call Morgan, Ext. 124 or Bill, Ext 197.

April 13:  SEPTA Advisory Committee meeting. 12:00-2:30 PM at SEPTA Headquarters, 1234 Market Street.  Consumer’s experiencing transportation issues with SEPTA/ CCT are encouraged to attend. We will meet at LRI in the 2nd floor reception area and leave at 12 noon to go to SEPTA.

April 14: FAIR Housing Workshop, 1:00-2:30 pm, Wade Blank Room. Do you know your rights as a person with a disability? Are you having difficulty with getting a reasonable accommodation from your landlord? Do you feel you have been discriminated against in your housing search? Join us for a discussion on Fair Housing Rights and learn who you can contact to file a complaint. April 14 & 28: Deaf Matters, 1:00-3:00 PM, Wade Blank Room A. Socialize with old friends and meet new people. Discuss what is happening in the world. Learn about Deaf rights. This is a group for people who wish to interact through American Sign Language. No interpreters are provided.  Call Harry, 215-600-1536.

April 18: LRI’s Food Pantry, 11:00 AM until food supplies are exhausted. The Food Pantry is open on the third Tuesday of every month! Please bring a bag.

April 19: Personal Resources Management with Tiffany Taylor of Wells Fargo, 1:00-3:00 PM, Wade Blank Room A. Any consumer who wishes to live independently needs to know how to handle their money. They will learn what products and services are available to them. We will share tips on Identity theft and fraud protections as well as safe use of debit and credit cards, and check writing.  ILS staff will give a brief introduction to the 6 week course that will begin in May. April 19: Support Group for Consumers with Psychiatric Disabilities, 3:30-5:00 PM, Skills Training Room. Call Morgan, Ext. 124.

April 20: Webinar, 1:30-3:00 PM, Wade Blank Room A. Update on the Implementation of Managed Care Long-Term Services and Supports presented by the Department of Human Services.

April 21: Getting to Know You & You & You, 1:00-3:00 PM, Wade Blank Room B.  LRI’s newest social group. The group will meet every 3rd Friday. Call Bill, Ext. 197.

April 26: SciFi Connections, 2:00-4:00 PM, Justin Dart Room. View a science fiction television pilot followed by discussion.  Refreshments!!  Call Patrick, Ext. 695.
