February 3, 2009 Action Alert: ADAPT "Funeral Procession for Justice" to protest SSI Cuts
WHAT: Funeral Procession for Justice
WHEN: 5:00 PM, Wednesday, February 3
WHERE: Procession begins at 315 S. Broad St.(Broad Street Ministry) and will march to City Hall. Please wear black.
WHY: Nearly 340,000 disabled and senior Pennsylvanians will go to their mailboxes Feb. 3 and experience an SSI cut of $5, and up to $10/month. We join Project Home and ask you to represent for the many who are living on a fixed income and are feeling this impact. The Funeral Procession is a way to demonstrate our sorrow that the state budget legislators and governor and DPW don’t get it.
Taking from the poorest among us damages us all and is no plan for economic recovery.
There's still time to contact officials to oppose the SSI cuts:

February 1, 2010 Action Alert: Oppose SSI Cuts!
Some have acted, others need to act now, and all of us need to act again.
Please oppose the SSI cuts and direct emails ; faxes to all targets listed below.
Don’t hurt the poorest of the poor. DPW had to actually approve these cuts for them to go into action. Consumers on SSI have not shared in the good economic times and sure are not doing well in these bad times. Most people in PA could not make it on the SSI payments that consumers must struggle through with. This $5 hit is very harmful to people who depend on every dollar to make it through most of the month. The $5 cut could be one of their last meals of the month; or a prescription co-pay; or transportation costs to a doctor or friend. Do not let people receiving SSI cut believe for a minute that all of us do not care a whit about their loss. The swift way that these cuts were pushed through deserves a fierce response from all of us.

November 4, 2009 Liberty in the News: Proposed Disabilities Act expansion discussed
By Jane M. Von Bergen
Inquirer Staff Writer
What happens if the boss fires a worker for insubordination and the worker counters with a claim under the Americans With Disabilities Act that he is being discriminated against because of a psychological disability that interferes with normal social interaction?
"Employers may think twice as they attempt to manage employees who may be engaged in disruptive, insubordinate behavior," said Darryl G. McCallum, a management lawyer from Shawe Rosenthal L.L.P. in Baltimore.
That was the kind of scenario, among others, raised yesterday when Stuart J. Ishimaru, acting chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other EEOC and Department of Justice officials held a "town hall listening session" for comments on proposed regulations governing an expansion of the act.
